Database management

Today one of the wide applications of computer is in the field of database managements. Database constitutes the most important component of any computer based information systems. A database may be defined as collections of inter- related relevant data store together to serve multiple applications. A data base management system is a collection of software package for processing the database
.
A database management system provides the technology for achieving more effective and efficient integrated information system. The major objective of designing any database management package is to provide its users an appreciably higher level framework such that the relevant interrelated data can be collected and stored together useful to some multiple applications.

Database management system further provides a security measure for the data that are stored in it. Database management system also helps in ease of maintaining the collected data such as modifying, deleting or for inserting new data also.

Designing a database management system is a very clumsy, tedious and time consuming task. It needs to check out all the relationship between data that are to be entered so that modification of one data in one place is just able to change the data in other place also. In each database there is a ‘key’ associated with it which is responsible for maintaining relationship between data. Therefore selection of key is a very important task in designing a database.

Artificial Intelligence

Intelligence is the computational part of the ability to achieve goals in the world. Varying kinds and degrees of intelligence occur in people, many animals and some machines.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the area of computer science focusing on creating machines that can engage on behaviors that humans consider intelligent. The ability to create intelligent machines has intrigued humans since ancient times and today with the advent of the computer and 50 years of research into Artificial Intelligence programming techniques, the dream of smart machines is becoming a reality. Researchers are creating systems which can mimic human thought, understand speech, beat the best human chess player, and countless other feats never before possible.

Artificial Intelligence, in today’s world, is used in many activities in many sub-fields. Some of the applications of Artificial Intelligence are game playing, speech recognition system, understanding natural language, autonomous planning and scheduling, robotics and many more fields.

One significant use of artificial intelligence is in the field of designing expert system. Expert system is such a system which can work, understand like humans and also having a superior knowledge about the purpose with which it has been built. As an example first expert system designed MYCIN can be taken. MYCIN was able to diagnosed bacterial infections of the blood and also able to suggest required treatment. It did better than medical students or practicing doctors, provided its limitations were observed.

Making Decisions

In every person’s life everyday there comes a time or situation one has to make decision. Decision can be of anything from small petty things to a big one which can even change the entire course of our life. So, taking right decision is one of the most important thing.
When one wakes up early in the morning first decision he/ she has to make is about at which time he/ she should leave the bed. After that he/ she should decide what to do next? He/ She should decide whether to go for morning walk or have breakfast. Further as the time moves on he/ she has more decision to make. These small decisions are not hard to make. But, when one has to make decisions about two important things he/ she will have to toil much harder. There arouses a situation where he/ she will find him/ herself in a dilemma.
One situation may be when one has a very important meeting at his/ her office. At the very instant his/ her dear ones (mother, wife, child) has a fatal accident. The individual has to think what to do at the very instant. He/ She should judge at which place he/she should be available. At one side there is his/ her career and another side there will be his family. At such instant in my view choosing decision to be with family is the appropriate. One can built career once again though he/ she will have to start from bottom again. But loved ones once gone will never be there again. But different people may have different opinions about it. It differs to the way of thinking and the view with which one individual thinks.
Making correct decision is a very important part of one’s life.
