Dire Straits is a British rock band formed by Mark Knofler, David Knofler, John Illsley and Pick Withers. They play classic rock music. Mark was on lead guitars and vocals, David on rhythm guitar and keyboard, John was on bass guitar and Pick on drums. They started their career in mid seventies and were active till mid nineties.
Some of their chart topping songs include ‘Sultans of swing’, ‘Money for nothing’, ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘Walk of life’, ‘Brothers in arms’, ‘Tunnel of Love’ and many more.
Dire Straits managed to compile six studio albums. All of them were sold millions of copies worldwide. They also performed live and produced live performance albums too.
The music of Dire Straits is usually a soft piece of music accompanied by some great solo guitar play by leading man Mark Knofler. Mark Knofler has a very swift hand moving across the strings of guitar and playing it to perfection. Further his sweet vocals added to some catchy lyrics made most of his composition very much pleasant for our ears to listen.
Two members that were present throughout the existence of the band are Mark Knofler and John Illsley. Their most selling album was ‘Brothers in arms’ released in 1985 which sold more than 25 millions worldwide. This album contained hits like So far away, Money for nothing, Walk of life and the title track- Brother in arms itself.
Mark Knofler has also released some solo albums which were not so much hit as the albums from his band.
